Goal 17 and it's founder, Fran Boorman, were honoured to be featured on BBC News showing the wonderful moment when a group of our Mentors from Balfour Beatty and Southampton City Council came together for an important Graduation Ceremony.

Despite lockdowns and restrictions from COVID-19 a group of 14 mentors had worked through the pandemic, remotely supporting young people from across the city. These were some of the young people furthest away from the jobs market, many suffering from mental health challenges and homelessness.

Through Goal 17's programme the team from Balfour Beatty and it's partners sponsored 14 young people through a 3-month employability programme, delivered by Saints Foundation of Southampton Football Club.

Alongside providing the funding they also learned the skills needed to mentor these young people and it was this human connection that made a real difference to everyone involved.

As the programme came to an end restrictions had life enough for the group to finally meet face to face and BBC News were there to capture the moment.
